My Wonderful Husband!

When Brett and I started dating (10 years ago now), I thought he was cute, sweet, and tons of fun.  When I said yes to marrying him, I knew I was going spend the rest of my life with an amazing husband.  As the years went by, both of us started getting really excited about being parents.  We couldn't wait to start our family and have a sweet one to love.  I could never have imagined the wonderful father that Brett would be to our baby boy.  Brett comes in the door excited to see Jacob. . . and Jacob is even more excited to see his daddy!  When Brett holds him, he gets the biggest grin on his face like he is the happiest baby in the universe!  I truly think that the ultimate display of Brett's love and devotion to me and Jacob was seen in our 5 day hospital stay.

Because Jacob was a little stuck, they had to tug a little harder to get him out and did some extra damage.  I was absolutely useless for about four days of our hospital stay!  Brett had to do everything for Jacob as I could not even stand to change his diaper for the first three or four days.  Brett helped me to sit up, lay down, stand up, walk. . . everything!  That first night, Brett was the only one that could hop up every time little one made a wimper.  He laughs later that he doesn't think he slept one minute that night! I believe it!
The hospital is super great to the mom of the baby, bringing delicious food three times a day.  Unfortunately, papa doesn't get to enjoy this benefit.  Poor Brett would go like 12-15 hours with no food until my mom would come and "rescue" him in the mornings so that he could leave for an hour and get some Zaxby's.  Of course, there was no complaining from him and he was only concerned about me feeling better and getting back on my feet.
I love this man so much and write this so that I can remember the funny parts of our long hospital stay and so that Jacob will know one day how much his daddy loved him from minute one.
I adore you Brett and Jacob does too!

Jacob's Visitors at the Hospital

Little Jacob had a fan club waiting for him when he arrived on the afternoon of the 9th.  Steph, Bert, and Emmy came over from Wake Forest, NC, while Mimi, Papa Stan, Nana and Papa (George) came up from GA.  Stan Wayne even made the trip up from Macon.   Everyone was there by the time he was born!  Emily kept them entertained in the waiting room in the meantime.  Other than a little scare (when they heard over the intercom:  "We need the first available OB to OR 1 STAT!") everyone had a great time waiting.  We were so thankful to having everyone loving on us on this important day!

Here's everyone in the waiting room being entertained by Emily :)

Welcome Jacob Isaiah! (Part 1)

As the beginning of our blog, it is only fitting to begin with the birth of our sweet baby boy Jacob!  He is now 14 weeks old and I have been postponing starting the blog until I had the "perfect" time to write the "perfect" post.  Well, I am now back at work and the moments are fleeting, so I decided that I should just begin anyway!  On the morning of August 8th, I began having contractions 20 mins apart.  Brett and I went to the Dr. to make sure that everything was alright and they confirmed that I was indeed in the early stages of labor.  They said that they might see me that night, or in three days.  We went home and waited out the rest of the day, me progressively feeling worse (or better, since the baby was on the way!)

That night at 1:15 am, my water broke and my contractions became 5 mins apart.  By the time we arrived at the hospital, they were three minutes apart.  I was committed to trying the "natural labor" thing until the pain became unbearable at 8am and I begged for an epidural.  I progressed normally until 12pm and began pushing.  After 2 hours of pushing, baby Jacob wasn't budging and his heart rate was up over 200.  Once I got a fever, they decided it was time for a c-section.  Off we went to the operating room!

When we arrived there, the Dr. had a hard time getting our big boy out since we had pushed for so long. At one point, we even heard her yell "Help.  I need some help in here!"  I think Brett was about to go help her at that point!  It wasn't 15 seconds later that we heard the sweetest cry in the entire world!  Our precious baby was in the world and super healthy.  He arrived at 8lbs 14 oz and 21 1/2 inches long!

Our prayers for a healthy baby boy were answered!
Here is Brett changing his first diaper!  He was such a proud daddy!

Mommy adores him so much!

First time getting to meet my baby!  We had loved you from the moment we knew we would have you!

Being a working mama, I will be writing the blog in short bits!  I'm so excited to document how much we love this new life that God has entrusted us with :)
